Personal Training
in Richmond
Bespoke 1-on-1 coaching for Melbourne locals who want real programming, real progress, and a coach who actually pays attention. Strength, fat loss, performance, rehab — built around your body.
Coaching that actually changes things
Most PT in Melbourne is a workout someone made up on the drive in. Ours isn't. Every session is part of a 12-week block, written around your body, your goals, and a movement assessment we do before you lift a single kilo.
Programmed, Not Improvised
12-week blocks with clear progression. You know what you're training, why, and what success looks like.
Physio in the Same Building
A niggle doesn't stop your progress. Your coach walks you 10 metres to the physio room — we'll work around it, not pause it.
Small Roster, Full Attention
Our coaches take a limited number of 1-on-1 clients. You get a coach who knows your PBs, your history, and your weekend plans.
Data Beats Guesswork
Body comp, strength numbers, movement screens — tracked fortnightly. No vibes-based training.
Matt Smith
Matt runs the PT side of ShapeShift. Ten-plus years coaching strength, fat loss and return-to-sport across Melbourne. He programs for busy professionals, parents, weekend athletes — people who want results but don't want to live at the gym.

Good questions, straight answers
How much does personal training cost in Richmond?
Our 1-on-1 PT is $70 for a 30-minute session or $100 for 45 minutes. Semi-private PT (3+ people, 45 min) is $40 per person. Every new client gets a free 30-minute consult before they pay anything.
I'm a complete beginner. Am I out of my depth here?
Not even slightly. Most of our PT clients start with "I haven't trained in years" or "I don't know what I'm doing." That's literally why you hire a coach. The movement assessment means we start exactly where you are — not where you think you should be.
How many sessions a week should I do?
Two sessions a week is the sweet spot for most goals — strength, fat loss, general conditioning. One session a week works if you'll train solo in between. Three+ is for athletic goals or tight timelines. We'll work this out in your consult.
How long is a session?
60 minutes. Enough time for a proper warm-up, the main work, and a cool-down conversation about what's coming next. We don't pad sessions to fill time.
How is this different from PT at a big-box gym?
Three things: programming, environment, and integration. At a chain gym you get a workout. Here you get a 12-week block written for your body, trained in a studio capped at 15 people per class, with a physio and recovery team down the hall. Different product entirely.
What should I wear / bring?
Normal training gear, runners, a water bottle. We provide everything else — towels, equipment, coffee if you need it. No dress code beyond "can you move in it."
Do you train people from outside Richmond?
Yes — a big chunk of our PT clients come from Burnley, Cremorne, Hawthorn, Abbotsford and Collingwood. We're 6 minutes' walk from West Richmond station and there's street parking on Rooney St.
